Caring for your new Alocasia

  • When you open up your new baby, let her stretch her leaves! She was in a box for 2-3 days, do not immediately put it under grow lights. Put it in indirect bright natural light for a couple of days, as needed, to get settled.

  • Do not repot right away, allow the plant to acclimate to its new environment for at least 4 weeks. However, the container it is sent in should be good for awhile!

  • I start my plants from corm/TC all the way to momma status in the same custom mixture (soon to be available on the website) This is a proprietary mixture containing: Lava rock, perlite, coco coir, and tree fern fiber.

  • If the plant is in semi hydro it will need to stay in a semi hydro set up. They say if swapped to soil, or vise versa, the roots will die off and grow new roots. This does cause leaf stress/loss and root rot!

  • 5000K Barrina T5 grow lamps are highly recommended. We use pink lights for pink var, yellow lights. for aurea var.

  • GT Foliage Focus is what my plants are fertilized with, otherwise, I recommend SuperThrive Foliage Pro. I pour 1 cap full mixed into 1gal of water. Keep soil moist, but not wet. There is always fertilizer mixture in the bottom reservoir or with every watering (for non self watering containers)

  • Water/soil pH should be maintained within 5.5-6.5, I test every time I water and weekly for soil. A shift in pH or untested water may cause issues with the leaves and overall stability of the plant.

  • Your new baby will be sent into the same container it was in under my care to prevent as much shock as possible.

  • Ambient care: 72-75F with 45-55% Humidity. If it was noted your new plant was in Ambient, please match this environment, and I would not recommend putting it into a cabinet right away!

  • Greenhouse care: 74-77F with 75-80% Humidity. If it was noted your new plant was in my Mini Greenhouse, please match this environment and reintroduce it to higher humidity!
